With the expansion of Informatics and its growing pervasiveness in
other disciplines and society in general, Department Heads and Deans
in Informatics face ever-increasing challenges. In conjunction with
the 12th European Computer Science Summit, ECSS 2016, Informatics
Europe is organising its <b>traditional Pre-Summit Workshop for
Deans and Department Heads</b> to jointly address common and
emerging challenges. The workshop is chaired by Mehdi Jazayeri,
founding Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, University of Lugano.<br>

<b>Goals:</b><br>
The workshop provides<br>
<ul>
<li>a practical forum for Deans and Department Heads - experienced
and new - to exchange experiences, proven strategies and best
practices</li>
<li>a unique networking opportunity for strengthening
relationships among leaders at European Informatics institutions</li>
</ul>

This year's meeting will cover a variety of issues presented by
prominent leaders from different European universities: <br>

broadening of Informatics: impact on the department"</i><br>
Gregor Engels, University of Paderborn: <i>"No risk, no fun! How to
work successfully in inter- and transdisciplinary projects"</i><br>

lessons</i>"<br>
Alexander Wolf, University of California at Santa Cruz - <i>title

The Pre-Summit Workshop for Deans and Department Heads is part of
the ECSS 2016 events. Organised annually by<a
href="http://www.informatics-europe.org/"> Informatics Europe</a>
and one of its member institutes, ECSS is the meeting place for
anyone interested in strategic issues and future trends related to
research, education, management, career development and policy in
Informatics. With some of the world's most distinguished
academics, industry leaders and policy makers on stage, the summit
never fails to inspire and stimulate. This year's ECSS will be
held in Budapest, Hungary, October 25-26, hosted by the Faculty of
Informatics, Eotvos Lorand University. It centres on the theme
"Informatics Driving the Digital World".<br>
