  Dear Colleagues,

Informatics Europe requests your help in recruiting candidates for
its Board of Directors. Our organisation needs individuals who have
time, energy, initiative, and resources to work on Informatics Europe
issues on behalf of our membership. We seek European research leaders
who are willing to actively engage in Informatics Europe's activities
and to contribute to setting its strategy for development. Candidates
must be affiliated with a regular member of Informatics Europe.

At the 2019 Annual General Assembly, around 5 new candidates will be
proposed for election. Their term of 2 years will start in January
2020 and they can be re-elected for another 2 years.

The Board is responsible for overseeing the operations and finances
of Informatics Europe (see more details on the Informatics Europe
Bylaws[1]). It meets as a whole to discuss current activities and
strategic issues once a month via a 1 hour conference call, and three
times per year for full day face-to-face meetings. Of these, one is in
conjunction with our annual ECSS conference. Board members are
expected to self-support travel expenses incurred through their role.

Board members are expected to take an active role in membership drive
initiatives in addition to contributing actively to working groups and
high-level activities. Often a Board member is responsible for a
specific activity.

Working groups can be permanent, such as on Education or WIRE (Women
in Informatics Research and Education); others have a special focus
and are normally expected to provide shorter term results (e.g.,
specific reports, recommendations, or policy setting documents).

High-level activities are core domains strategically important for
the development of the organization and strengthening its membership.
Examples include Increasing Membership, EU Visibility, Improving
Networking, Data Collection and Reporting.

The Nomination Committee[2] will carefully consider all nominations.
Important criteria considered by the committee include: GEOGRAPHICAL
DISTRIBUTION, GENDER BALANCE, RESEARCH AREA DIVERSITY, DISTRIBUTION OF
MEMBER INSTITUTIONS SIZES, BALANCE BETWEEN ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRIAL
REPRESENTATION, SENIORITY, EVIDENCE OF LEADERSHIP AND PREVIOUS
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE INFORMATICS COMMUNITY.

  IMPORTANT DATES AND EVENTS:

   * MARCH 18, 2019, DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF NOMINATIONS.
   * On May 24, 2019, the Informatics Europe Board will vote to
approve the slate of candidates recommended by the Nomination Committee.
   * On September 20, 2019, the approved slate of candidates will be
presented to member representatives with the invitation to the 2019
Annual General Assembly.
   * On October 29, 2019 elections will be held at the 2019 Annual
General Assembly in Rome, during the ECSS 2019.

QUESTIONS CAN BE SENT TO LYNDA HARDMAN
(LYNDA.HARDMAN at INFORMATICS-EUROPE.ORG) CHAIR OF THE BOARD NOMINATION
COMMITTEE.
